Samarium Chloride Hydrate (SmCl₃·6H₂O): Chemical Additive, Reaction Catalyst, Growth Promoter

An inorganic compound with the chemical formula SmCl₃·6H₂O, appearing as beige-yellow crystals. It is soluble in water (approximately 25g of hydrate dissolves in 100mL water at 18°C) and benzene. When heated to 760°C, it decomposes into samarium oxide.

 

Applications

  1. Used as an additive in the chemical industry.

Packaging Specifications

Production Method

  1. Dissolve an appropriate amount of samarium oxide in 50% hydrochloric acid solution using a steam bath for heating.
  2. Filter the solution if any residual solids remain.
  3. Heat the clarified solution in a 75°C water bath to evaporate most solvent.
  4. Cool to allow crystallization.
  5. Collect crystals via filtration and dry them in a vacuum desiccator containing granular sodium hydroxide and magnesium perchlorate.
