Preparation of Europium Nitrate Hydrate
Dissolve appropriate amount of europium oxide in 50% nitric acid solution using steam bath heating. Typically the oxide dissolves completely; filter if residual solids remain. Heat the filtrate at 75°C water bath to remove most solvent. Crystals form upon cooling. Collect by filtration and dry in vacuum desiccator containing granular NaOH and Mg(ClO₄)₂ under reduced pressure to obtain hydrated europium nitrate.
