Dysprosium Acetate Hydrate (Dy(CH₃COO)₃·4H₂O): Chemical Additive, Reaction Catalyst, Growth Promoter

Dysprosium acetate is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula Dy(C2H3O2)3·4H2O, appearing as pale yellow crystals. It is soluble in water (approximately 25g of hydrate dissolves in 100mL water at 18°C) and benzene. When heated to 760°C, it decomposes into dysprosium oxide.

 

Applications

About Dysprosium Acetate Hydrate
Dissolve appropriate amount of dysprosium oxide in 50% acetic acid solution using steam bath heating. Typically the oxide dissolves completely; if small amounts remain at container bottom, filtration is required. Heat the obtained clear solution on a 75°C water bath to remove most solvent. Crystals form upon cooling. Collect crystals by filtration and place in a vacuum desiccator containing granular sodium hydroxide and magnesium perchlorate. Dry under vacuum to obtain hydrated dysprosium acetate.
