Thulium Acetate Hydrate (Tm(CH₃COO)₃·4H₂O): Chemical Additive, Reaction Catalyst, Growth Promoter

Thulium acetate is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula Tm(C₂H₃O₂)₃·4H₂O, appearing as light green crystals. It is soluble in water (approximately 25g of hydrate dissolves in 100mL water at 18°C) and benzene. When heated to 760°C, it decomposes into thulium oxide.

Preparation of Thulium Acetate Hydrate

Dissolve an appropriate amount of thulium oxide in 50% acetic acid solution using steam bath heating. While thulium oxide typically dissolves completely, any residual oxide at the container bottom should be filtered out. The resulting clear solution is then heated on a 75°C water bath to remove most solvent. Crystals form upon cooling. After collecting by filtration, the crystals are placed in a vacuum desiccator containing granular sodium hydroxide and magnesium perchlorate for vacuum drying, yielding hydrated thulium acetate.
