Scandium oxide, with the chemical formula Sc2O3, appears as white powder in pure form and slightly yellowish when impure. It is insoluble in water and alkalis but soluble in acids. Slightly hygroscopic, it easily absorbs water and carbon dioxide from air, converting to basic scandium carbonate.
