Bismuth Oxide (Bi₂O₃): Electronic Ceramics, Photoelectric Converters, and Red Glass Coloring Agent
Bismuth oxide is an inorganic compound with molecular formula Bi2O3. Pure products include α-type, β-type and δ-type.The α-type is yellow monoclinic crystal with relative density 8.9, melting point 825℃, soluble in acid but insoluble in water and alkali. The β-type is bright yellow to orange, tetragonal crystal system, relative density 8.55, melting point 860℃, soluble in acid but insoluble in water. It can be easily reduced to metallic bismuth by hydrogen, hydrocarbons etc.δ-Bi2O3 is a special material with cubic fluorite-type structure where 1/4 oxygen ion sites are vacant, thus exhibiting very high oxygen ion conductivity.

About Bismuth Oxide
Add sodium hydroxide solution (free of carbon dioxide) dropwise into bismuth nitrate solution (80-90℃) to mix. Keep the solution alkaline during precipitation to generate white, expanded bismuth oxide hydrate Bi(OH)3 precipitate. Heat this solution with brief stirring to dehydrate into yellow bismuth trioxide. After water decantation washing, filtration and drying, bismuth oxide product is obtained.
